Eight Mansions feng shui methodology is commonly recognised as part of Sam He feng shui stream, and the Eight Mansions methodology is used for the yang mansion feng shui application.
This methodology is strictly emphasised on the matching of human (resident) life trigram (gua) with the yang mansion trigram for live-in suitability.
MANSION TRIGRAM
Eight types of mansions named as per their sitting direction trigram:

- Li Mansion sits south and faces north.
- Zhen Mansion sits east and faces east.
- Xun Mansion sits southeast and faces northwest
- Kan Mansion sits north and faces south.
- Qian Mansion sits northwest and faces southeast
- Dui Mansion sits west and faces east
- Gen Mansion sits northeast and faces southwest
- Kun Mansion sits southwest and faces northeast.
- Zhen Mansion sits east and faces east.
- Xun Mansion sits southeast and faces northwest
- Kan Mansion sits north and faces south.
- Qian Mansion sits northwest and faces southeast
- Dui Mansion sits west and faces east
- Gen Mansion sits northeast and faces southwest
- Kun Mansion sits southwest and faces northeast.
These eight types of mansions are further allocated into two groups, namely – East-4 Mansion and West-4 Mansion. This grouping rule was derived from the principles of eight trigrams science from the I-Ching.
East Mansion Group consists of Li, Zhen, Xun and Kan MansionWest Mansion Group consists of Qian, Dui, Gen and Kun Mansion.
HUMAN LIFE TRIGRAM
Eight types of human life trigrams can be calculated as per the Sam Yuan Life Trigram formula establised as per the Zi-Ba 9 stars methodolgy. These are laterly Heaven Trigrams are mapped with the Zi-Ba 9 stars thru the Lo Shu numbering for the trigrams.

Below are two tables of the same functions to facilitate the look up of the human life trigram as per the male or female person's year of birth.

Then, East-4 Life human should be living in one of the the East-4 Mansion for prosperity in wealth and healthy, whereas the West-4 Life human should be living in one of the East-4 Mansion. The human life trigram is also being used for matching with the position of door, stove, bedroom, etc.. interior design and settings. No mix up the East and West, could be harmful!
